IC card prevents theft of crypto assets, app facilitates funds transfer

MoriX Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Morihiko Kubota, referred to below as "MoriX"), a leading developer and marketer of fingerprint authentication systems, is pleased to announce the launch of the "MoriX Wallet Card (MWC)", an IC card with fingerprint authentication that enables secure management of cryptographic assets, on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. The product will be available on Amazon's e-commerce site ( from Tuesday 18 August 2020.

We expect demand from crypto asset exchanges and general users of crypto assets, and plan to sell tens of thousands of units in the first year at a price of 27,000 yen per unit.

In the crypto asset space, there have been a number of incidents where large amounts of crypto assets have been stolen due to unauthorized access to the servers of exchange companies. Users need to manage their cryptographic assets, using hardware wallets that are not connected to the network. Yet they need to be prepared for the risk that the passwords for managing the wallets could be leaked, resulting in the need for countermeasures.

MoriX Wallet Card(MWC)

MoriX Wallet Card(MWC) is an IC card with a fingerprint sensor and authentication algorithm implemented. Fingerprint information cannot be tampered with after it has been registered, and the identity of the user is strictly verified by placing the finger on the sensor on the IC card. Fingerprint data is encrypted and stored on the card, which means that no fingerprint information is exchanged on the server. MoriX has experience in the development of fingerprint authentication cards for credit cards and other financial cards, providing a high level of security.
Two wallets are implemented in one card, each capable of managing 10 different crypto assets at once. At the moment, the following seven crypto assets are supported: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Dogecoin (DOGE) and DASH (DASH ). We are planning to support Ripple (XRP) and ERC20 standard tokens in the future.

The remittance and receipt of crypto assets is available through an app installed on your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can enter the recipient's address and other information in the app and then fingerprint the card to finalize the transfer. The card has an e-paper display to generate QR codes.
You can also show the QR code to the person you want to send the crypto asset to, allowing them to receive the crypto asset. The display can provide information such as the balance of assets held. The card contains a thin rechargeable battery, which can be used for up to two weeks on a charge via USB. The wallet can be used as a stand-alone device, with its ability to exchange cryptographic assets using QR codes and display the balance of the cryptographic assets held.
